After studying music, arts and business administration at colleges and universities in Würzburg (Diploma in Music, Viola), in Hamburg (Diploma in Cultural Management) and Plymouth (MBA with distinction), Ekkehard Jung worked in management for various non-profit and for-profit cultural organizations. During his studies he helped out as an orchestra musician in the viola groups of the theater orchestras in Kiel and Lübeck.
As orchestra manager of the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, he initiated a film music series that continues to run uninterrupted to this day. At the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen he was responsible for artistic planning, CD productions and global sales of the orchestra with tours through Europe, North and South America, Japan and Asia. During this time he worked closely with artists such as Leif Ove Andsnes, Renaud Capuçon, Collegium Vocale Gent, Natalie Dessay, Véronique Gens, Daniel Harding, Thomas Hengelbrock, Heinz Holliger, Paavo Järvi, Sabine Meyer, Anne Sofie von Otter, Trevor Pinnock, András Schiff, Heinrich Schiff, Christian Tetzlaff, Lars Vogt and Pieter Wispelwey.
Since 2001, Ekkehard Jung has worked as an artist manager, initially at Van Walsum, as head of the German branch in Hanover in the offices of the Schmid Concert Directorate and later at the headquarters in London for artists such as Yuri Bashmet, the Borodin Quartet, Marie-Elisabeth Hecker and Kristjan Järvi , Barnabás Kelemen, the Moscow Soloists, Javier Perianes, Frank Strobel and others.
In 2009, Ekkehard Jung became managing partner in the Impresariat Simmenauer in Berlin and then founded Ekkehard Jung Artists & Projects in Berlin in 2012. From 2013 to 2018, he worked in partnership with Hazard Chase in Cambridge and was a member of the board. Since 2020 he has also been working as managing director and partner for the European Film Philharmonic in Berlin. With Beate Warkentien as authorized signatory, he heads the European Film Philharmonic and a close collaboration began between the two companies.
In his free time, he enjoys reading and attending theaters and film shows when he is not hiking, dancing or playing the viola. He is married and has two adult children.
