Jamie Phillips is recognised for his musical clarity, stylistic versatility and engaging artistic personality. His interpretations combine expressive storytelling with precision and a fresh perspective on the repertoire. Bachtrack praised his “ability to pick up a familiar piece by the scruff of its neck and shake invigorating new life into it”.

As a sought-after guest conductor, Phillips regularly collaborates with leading orchestras across Europe, including the Philharmonia Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Tonkünstler Orchestra, Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, Deutsche Radio Philharmonie, NDR Radiophilharmonie, Munich Chamber Orchestra, Oslo Philharmonic, Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne.

A particularly close artistic relationship links Phillips with the Hallé Orchestra. Following his appointment as Assistant Conductor at the age of just twenty, the orchestra created the position of Associate Conductor especially for him. Since then, he has returned regularly to conduct subscription concerts and special projects.

His broad repertoire spans from the Baroque era to contemporary music. Phillips has also established a strong reputation as an advocate of new music. His recordings of works by Tarik O’Regan and Helen Grime with the Hallé Orchestra received critical acclaim, while his Sony recording of eleven commissioned works inspired by J. S. Bach’s Goldberg Variations, made with the NDR Radiophilharmonie and violinist Niklas Liepe, was honoured with an Opus Klassik Award.

Jamie Phillips studied at the Royal Northern College of Music. He was a prize winner at the Nestlé Salzburg Young Conductors Award and, in 2016, was awarded a Dudamel Fellowship with the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
